2026 Winter Session

*Beginner & Intermediate*

Glazed and Confused

The aim of this course is to help the student understand glaze, glaze making, glaze colour development, and how to apply and fire glaze. The ultimate goal of this workshop is to give the student more choice when glazing and finishing their work. Consequently, a basic understanding of glaze composition, application, and firing is essential.

In addition to throwing pieces to try glaze techniques on, we will be talking about various ways of dealing with the glaze slop in the bucket, and apply it to your pottery. We will also explore glaze overlaps of various kinds, over glaze brushwork, and even some work with lustres.

In my career I've employed a practical approach to glaze work. If you hate glazing, or are intimidated by the whole process, my goal is to turn that around, so that you can approach this essential part of pottery making with more confidence..
